Former Director of the City of Denver’s Development Services Department Starting-up his Own Real Estate Venture
The “Real Estate Garage” will help developers maximize profitability and production
Denver, Colorado – January 5, 2015 – Steve Ferris has established a new real estate services firm, bidding adieux to his role as Director of the City of Denver’s 140-person Development Services Department. The new venture, named the Real Estate Garage, will help developers maximize production of real estate projects, plans, and approvals.
The name invokes the problem solving traditions of the tech industry. Leveraging 20-plus years of experience, and insight on public agencies and their processes, the Real Estate Garage’s acumen produces significant time and money savings within real estate development.
“With an in-depth understanding of the private and public development processes, I know firsthand that there is great opportunity for property owners to produce high quality projects with reduced timelines,” stated Ferris. “Transitioning underutilized land into income producing assets requires thoughtful coordination of technical expertise and planning and approval know-how. That is the unique service that the Real Estate Garage will bring.”
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock noted, “Steve brought solid knowledge of both the public and private sectors to the City’s Development Services Department. I have no doubt he will continue to use that insight to serve this great City we love in his latest endeavor.”
Clients include landowners with specific entitlement challenges as well as those needing long-term development planning advice. Services are offered to both the public and private sectors and include a consortium of professional skills.
The Real Estate Garage relies on Ferris’ extensive networks in metro Denver and nationally to boost the value of clients’ real estate assets. Clients range from national construction system providers to private equity investors to developers in Denver’s upcoming River North neighborhood. “Steve understands the private and public side of projects in a unique way — and knows how to keep projects in motion. Developers need all sides of that equation and Steve is the secret sauce to make that happen,” stated Jason Winkler of Industry Denver.
Ferris secures happy clients with strong organization skills, design discipline integration, and highly effective government relations. His extensive experience includes the production of over $40MM in project savings within project plans and designs while working directly for developers.
Ferris’ career arc demonstrates a recurring ability to effortlessly transfer real estate expertise across sectors and professions. Born in Southeast Asia, he has worked in New York City, the Florida Keys, Micronesia, Hawaii, New Mexico, California, Nevada, North Dakota, and Colorado. His curiosity and passion for learning is exhibited by his BS in Civil Engineering from Marquette University, an MS in Urban Planning from Cornell University, and an MBA with a real estate finance focus from the University of Denver.
